Anyone who followed the development of house music made in the USA in the last decade will certainly have met the art of Fred Peterkin aka Fred P aka Black Jazz Consortium.
Since a while the New York City native that is working on his very own music for almost 20 years is on everyone's lips as he is releasing some of the gentlest soul infiltrated four-to-the-floor house creations you can get. His musical set phrase isn't new or special as he is often simply melting shuffling percussions with elementary melodies. but he does it in a sense that the heavy used and abused phrase "deepness" finally gets a fresh truthfully new meaning.
As a man who danced in his younger years in legendary NYC clubs like the Red Zone, Sound Factory or Tunnel to dj sets of larger-than-life selectors like David Morales, Frankie Knuckles or Danny Tenaglia, he learned that sometimes less is more. and that he should rather listen to his heart and soul, then to the susurrus of the music market. That is why you can call his house music journey music, music to travel. Sometimes it is an introspective and meditative journey sometimes an inspirational and lively one. It always stays visionary while using simple codes to transform his inner voice into rhythms and melodies.
Since childhood inspired and infatuated with the more obscure and darker styles of music, such as hard rock and metal, but as much appreciative of other types of music, including jazz, hip-hop and classical music, Matts Brouns is a true music lover and connaisseur.
Playing the guitar and knowing his way around the keys of a piano, taught him to create a vision of what his ideal music should sound like. Whilst getting older, getting to know new people and starting a new chapter in his life, Matts discovered clubs, festivals and an interesting view on music.
After an education of sound engineering, Matts was keen on producing his own music and dove into the world of making records, combining this with more and more gigs as a dj. As a result, his spectrum on music kept on expanding and still does every day. Supported by the Lucid crew and being part of it, Matts Brouns has had the chance to play at big festivals (Lucid Festival, Sunrise Festival), clubs as Café d'Anvers and Petrol and loads of events in the region of Antwerp.
Depending on the mood that he is in, he will always surprise the crowd, not worrying about styles or genres. Having no musical boundaries what so ever, he will take people on a journey, whether it be in a club making ravers dance their shoes off, or on a sunny festival day, getting the crowd mesmerized by his very distinctive sound.
This guy has earned his stripes at numerous parties, as most of you will probably already know. Representing the deeper side of house music, where dancing is mandatory. Sir Olf doesn't hesitate to select obscure gems next to well known tunes, making his sets very dynamic and original.
Early confrontations with disco, soul, funk, hiphop and house made Delbaen realise there was music than your average radioshow.
After moving to Antwerp some things started rollin'. A weekly techno-show at a local radiostation, a passage at the legendary USA Import-studio and the splendid summer vibes at the Sunday Matinee outdoor parties led to new friendships, which were essential to what he's become today.
Lucid is an Antwerp based concept for dance music. Now, more then ever, it has became the soundtrack of our lives and many others. Our goal is to bring quality music to Antwerp by inviting artist from all over the world at our indoor and outdoor events.
Names like Marcellus Pittman, Fred P, Smallpeople, Cosmin Trg, Daniel Bell, Moomin, Patrice Scott, Mike Dehnert Dj Deep, DVS1, Rio Padice came to make the dance floor shake along talented local dj’s and our very own resident dj’s.
We are ‘layering’ music by providing different styles of music. We gently build it up from smooth vibes to hard pounding beats. After these years, Lucid has evolved to an established value in the Antwerp dance scene, but continue to push our musical boundaries.
